Truth (Consequences, #2) By Aleatha Romig

Claire Nichols endured the CONSEQUENCES of Anthony Rawlings’ vendetta.

When she first arrived to his home, her goal was survival. Through strength and compartmentalization Claire captivated her captor. Her resilience in the face of his rule threatened Anthony’s well developed plan. He thought he taught her to behave-but domination became desire and Claire taught Tony to love.

Their passion and adoration in a world of opulence appeared perfect, yet the reality was a roller coaster of emotion. Claire’s world teetered on the edge of sanity as Antony monitored her every move. When given the opportunity to flee, Claire drove away—a fateful decision which began a well laid plan.

Unbeknownst to either of them, there were others who saw past the perfect facade of Anthony Rawlings. There were others who saw the TRUTH. Conspiracy and unfulfilled promises result in an early prison release for Claire. Not just a release—a pardon. According to the law, her crime never happened!

Will it be that easy? Faced with freedom from her past—can Claire seize it? Can she build a new life, mend her broken spirit, become the woman she once was, and seek her own revenge? Or is it all a game? And does the game master have different plans?
How does Sophia Burke fit into the puzzle that is Tony and Claire? Will her presence affect the future of this well esteemed man? Can he dominate twice? Is that his goal?

TRUTH continues the tumultuous saga of CONSEQUENCES,introduces new players, and uncovers more intrigue. Aleatha Romig skillfully weaves past transgressions through current deception to create a fervent world of obsessed desire. In this reality can an all-consuming relationship survive?

When buried sins are discovered they threaten not only Tony and Claire’s future—but their very lives! Will the TRUTH be revealed in time?

“Your memory is a monster; you forget – it doesn’t. It simply files things away. It keeps things for you, or hides things from you — and summons them to your recall with a will of its own. You think you have a memory; but it has you!”
I find it extremely hard to believe that someone can completely change their personality like Tony did. Remember people, he’s a monster!!! Not only did he kidnap Claire, keep her imprisoned, rape her, punish her sexually, physically abuse her, but when she did finally leave his ass he framed her for attempted murder and had her sent to prison.
“I have made some bad decisions… and done some things I regret in my life… but without a doubt… what I regret the most… is divorcing you. If you tell me there is hope, that one day you’ll be Mrs. Rawlings again, I will wait.”
Claire what are you thinking??? His bad decisions were life threatening!!! Now I understand the whole Stockholm Syndrome was obviously a major factor here. But I really don’t understand how she can be frightened of him one minute and want to jump his bones the next.
“When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us.”
Harry was right there in front of Claire’s eyes! I adored Harry. He didn’t even know Claire and he went out of his way to try to help her. Never did he question her story or the fact that she was in prison. He let her be herself completely. Never expecting anything from her in return.
“I guess we are who we are for a lot of reasons. And maybe we’ll never know most of them. But even if we don’t have the power to choose where we come from, we can still choose where we go from there.”
That’s right Claire, you twit! You had the choice and you chose to go back to the man who thought so little of you and constantly put you in danger. Tony was all about actions having consequences….. I wonder what the consequences would be for lying and deceiving him, running away yet again, stealing millions of his dollars, disappearing and letting him believe that you and his unborn baby are probably dead? The last time Claire ran away she ended up in prison. I wonder what he could be capable of on a remote island with her, when everyone already thinks she is dead? I guess we’ll soon see…
“If you prick us do we not bleed? If you tickle us do we not laugh?
If you poison us do we not die? And if you wrong us shall we not revenge?”
I wanted revenge in this story! I wanted Tony to hurt, to bleed, to lose everything he had! I wanted him to feel exactly how he made Claire feel! I thought about only giving this story 3 stars. However, after giving myself sometime to cool off I have realised that if it wasn’t such a great book I wouldn’t be so worked up about it! The writing, yet again, was captivating and even though it pissed me off, I couldn’t stop reading!
